Hearthstone Key Twitter Giveaway

When we reach 50 followers, one of them will get a Hearthstone Beta Key!

The Witcher

Witchers are the next greatest things after god. They are mutated humans with magic abilities and keen senses. We take the role of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher trying to regain his memory and kill the bad guys. He is a drunk, a scoundrel and a badass.

The story spans through 5 chapters and about 40 HOURS of minimun gameplay. The plot is very good so don't worry. The graphics are pretty good despite the bad lip-sync and clumpsy battle animations. The sound is pretty good too. It's a very good game.

Beyond: Two Souls

This is not a game. It's an interactive movie that pushes the boundaries of gaming to the edge. Ellen Page gives a performance worth an Oscar as Jodie in a role that bounces between drama, sci-fi, action, adventure and military. Jodie is a girl not like the others. She always has Aiden with her, a spirit that she must understand, tame and live with. Τhere are many twists and great characters that only make it better.

As in the other works of David Cage, the choices have impact, the realism is on the max level and it's an experience full of emotions. Even if it gets linear sometimes, the 10 hours it will take you are worth every penny. It's a very close to perfect game that won't let anyone down.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Oblivion is old, but it's also a classic. Based on the Elder Scrolls universe, the forth title is good enough to stand tall. You are the random (or not?) prisoner who gets his freedom in order to play his part in saving the empire. Things do downfall, Oblivion gates open and you must make it right. Oblivion is the hellish plane where the Daedra live, you must close the gates etc. You get the idea.

What makes IV good is it's lore. It's full of things to do and see so even if you don't like the main story, which is somewhat repetitive for its 12 hours, you can be a thief, assassin, Blade, Vampire, or even live as a farmer. The graphics are quite amazing for the year the game was released and so is the sound. There are some game-design issues but they are mostly minor, so yeah, Oblivion is a good game.

Grand Theft Auto V

Franklin, Michael and Trevor bring back GTA to it's logical position. The throne. GTA V is a diamond. It's got a huge map, tons of things to see and a very good story. Apart from that, having three characters makes it more immersive as you get to see the story from many different points of view.

69 main missions (not counting side, events, randoms, exploration etc etc) and a total of more than 30 hours makes it a pretty good lenght for a modern game. Of course there will be downloadable packs though - it's 2013, the industry revolves around dlcs.. GTA V takes all the good elements of the whole series and makes them better. Forget the mediocre IV, V is here.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Square Enix's second attempt on XIV is a good one. The game is full of things to do, all mmo-ish and fun. The addition of FATEs, like RIFTs is a good one and helps the party-finding, grinding and general immersion.

The old fighting system is well adapted to play on the PS3 and not show it's age and the graphics are eye-candy-like. The only problem is the total absence of voice acting. All dialogues are texts, big foul. All in all it's a good mmo though, if you are a fan of FF or want a decent mmo for the PS3 go for it.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Portrait of Ruin picks up the story of Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin as they make their way through the damned castle to kill Brauner, the resident vampire who has captured Dracula to get his power. The gameplay element of course is what makes the game stand out. It's fast, hard and fun.

It's classic. Everything works great and you will need a ton of skill to kill the bosses or even get to the next room, but it's rewarding and fulfilling. There is also a co-op mode via local connection.

PS. Awesome soundtrack and immersion.

Hearthstone beta preview

Hearthstone is still in beta so no rating. Ok? Now to the game. Hearthstone is a card game much like Magic: The Gathering more than any other trading card game, but with a WoW-y twist. You choose a class and play with it's cards. Of course you get to customize the deck. As you win the class levels up and you get cards, or you can buy boosters for in-game coins or real money.

The setting is simple, pick a class, find opponent, fight. The cool addition is the Arena. There you choose 1 from 3 random classes and build a deck from scratch. As you play and win, you get bigger chances of a fat reward in the end. If you lose 3 times you are out with the reward in pocket. Lauch sometime this year.

Lost Planet 3

Lost Planet 3 takes place 50 years before the original game. Jim Peyton, the main character, is a construction worker at NEVEC on E.D.N. III. He mines T-energy (aka. unobtainium), kills Akrids and does his job.

The mech gameplay seems fun but is severely limited and even though it tries, doesn't make the dull shooting action fun. The graphics are mediocre to bad, as are the animations. Even the awesome space-western soundract is destroyed by awful level design. Take it or leave it, or wait for a patch/dlc/expansion that puts the mech in a more basic role.

The Last Story

The Last Story puts you in the shoes of Zael, a mercenary travelling through Lazulis Island with his interesting merc friends. The Gurak, a long ago friendly to the humans monstrous tribe, are rising against them. Zael finds himself in the middle of this starting war as he possesses not only the wit and courage but also the power to bring the confilct to an end. Of course, as we are talking about an rpg, tons of other characters will intervene and try to take control, mess up for Zael etc. It's a jrpg but one of the good ones.

The controls are easy enough to get used to them in like 20". This makes the fast gameplay awesomer. The fights are action based but later you can make them more tactical by ordering your friends what to do. Of course there are melees, mages, archers, tanks, whatever you want. Graphics are a bit old as we are talking about the Wii but don't bother about them. It's the least and only mediocre thing. The company is very diverse and ties the game together with nice narrative, many opinions and great lines. If you have a Wii go for it.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Now the leader of Fourth Echelon and captain of the Normandy-like aircraft Paladin, Sam Fisher is in charge of bringing down "The Engineers" and their terrorist plan called "Blacklist". The plan is simple as cake. USA has to bring all it's troops back home or a target is destryoed every week, either with chemicals or explosions or whatever.

The classic stealth action that we all love is back, classic moves like "Death from above" are also back and the game brings choises too. Play as a ghost or Arnie, you still win. Points are given for each playstyle, points equal money, money buys equipment upgrades. On multiplayer, Spies vs. Mercs is back, 2v2 and 4v4. Must-have game.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

Αnother day, another problem for the Mushroom Κingdom. The Koopa family takes Peach and the Bros. are out to get her back. There are six worlds with a standard variation of levels, normal, cloudy, underwater, a mini-castle, a ghost level, the main castle etc. The game is relatuvely easy for a seasoned player and he will get through it in two days at most.

The catch is of course the 1.000.000 coins. Get them all and something magic happens. Of course its a Mario game so it's classically replayable. The 3D is well done and does seem like a natural part of the game, sound and controls pretty good as always. This is a must-have for the 3DS.

Android Netrunner

On the darkest corners of a futuristic cyberpunk space, Hackers and Megacorporations are battling for dominance.

Shall you choose to fight on the blue corner, as an evil Megacorp you will be building and upgrading a digital fortress of firewalls to protect your precious servers and score your top secret agendas.

On the red corner a lone Hacker using powerful programs and hardware, launches deadly viruses in an attempt to break the fortress's defences and steal the precious agendas.

Little twists build up a constant tension. Will the hacker manage to make a successful run through the server or he will get tricked into spending all his resources, smashing firewall after firewall only to discover a worthless project? Will the company manage to mislead the runner and score her agendas in time or she will be forced to watch the runner browse through her servers undisturbed? Bluffing, mind-games, strategy and secrecy are the existing aspects during the whole game. Every hit you receive, no matter what role you play, drains your resources and leaves you in agony to recover, as for victory to be achieved, it must be snatched from the teeth through sacrifices and last-minute twists.

Netrunner is the next big thing in the living card game genre so get your deck ready to battle in this Game of the Cyber Thrones!

Fun fact : The Man behind Netrunner is no one else than MTG's Richard Garfield which pretty much explains the poker-like tactics and strategy skills the game requires.

Thanks Jinny for this guest post. Cheers!

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Bowser takes Peach, Mario takes Yoshi to get Peach Back. The second game of the Galaxy series takes it's predecessor and puts it a huge step forward. Based on the same 3d planet platform gameplay, sets a new course for all platform and Mario games.

Luigi is also playable too. By collecting Power Stars our Italian heroes get closer and closer to the beloved princess. Present are 2d levels too, to get the ol' good feeling. Everyone must play this game.

Borderlands 2

Return to Pandora. Handsome Jack is trying to open the Guardian's vault and use him to take over everything. You, a vault hunter, has to stop him. Either you be the Siren, the Commando, the Berserker or just a number, the quest is long and filled with loot. Tons of it.

In Borderlands 2 everything is better than in the first game. It's longer (minimun play time about 20 hours), optics are awesome, sound is superb, quest lines are interesting and items endless and powerful. Don't miss this diamond.

UnEpic

Daniel walks in the bathroom and walks out in a castle. He is the hero of his very own fantasy adventure and must kill the local evil lord to go back in reality. UnEpic features a huge castle to explore, fast hard and fun platform rpg gameplay and a thousand funny lines between characters.

Imagine Castlevania but with a twist. Instead of grim it's fun, instead of totally hard to play, well it is hard. It's got all the nice things that made us men and adds games and movies quotes and humor. Τhe multiplayer is pretty nice and the whole game will keep you for a nice longtime. Sound and gfx are pretty nice too, even if the game is an one-man-show.

Story 8/10 Gameplay 9/10 Technical 8/10 Overall 8/10

Deadpool

First of all I want to tell you about the main character. Deadpool is a wacky, goofy, silly, schizophrenic parody of an anti-hero, who makes shocking and sexist jokes and is hungry for killing and girls. In the comic he is aware that he is a comic book character. So in the game he knows he’s a videogame character. Those features make this game funny. It’s a videogame parody.

The game starts having Deadpool force High Moon to make a game about him. But unfortunately the big bad guy of the game was killed by Mister Sinister and there starts a hunt of revenge for his stolen glory.

The gameplay is action based (in melee combat) with third person shooter features (in ranged combat). Melee combos combined with gunshots makes it cool but a bit repeatable. The lock on system is also problematic as to lock on you must have the crosshair close to your target. The quotes and some unexpected events help you not to lose interest. It’s an one-run game.

Crazy Machines 1.5 New from the Lab

Remaking the old classic, this games achieves to bring nostalgia and boggle the mind too easily. For the new kids on the block, in Crazy Machines -like The Incredible Machine (now total retro) - you must build a Rube Goldberg  machine with the given items to achieve a simple task like popping a balloon.

The gameplay is pretty simple, drag an' drop the items in the right olace, combine them correctly and go to the next level. The catch is, when you must combine a battery, a robot and a bowling ball to scare a mouse, what do you do? Total brain puzzling and fun.

The Mighty Quest For Epic Loot

Ubisoft showed this game in her e3 conference. A knight was hacking n' slashing n' trash talking some minions. Now it's in beta. It's a free to play Diablo-ish game with short dungeons and fast paced gameplay. Humor and bright colors are all over the place.

The second part of the game is the tower defence management one. You get a castle and have to build a blacksmith, architect, apotion table and stuff to get upgrades to your arsenal. Also make in inpenetrable to enemies. It's a bit of a weird combination but it gives a nice touch to the game.

No rating, still in beta.
